“I can’t find my purpose…” - ooof, I can often feel the exhaustion behind this. The energy behind it is usually fuelled by other people’s ideas of what purpose is.
We can put so much pressure on ourselves trying to find something in life that will give us a sense of direction, meaning and fulfilment. How that’s discovered is a deeply PERSONAL endeavour. Feeling a sense of purpose in this world requires a lot of deep introspection and self-reflection. Unfortunately, many are far too distracted to take the time to truly understand themselves, their values, and their passions. Without this self-awareness, the quest for purpose can become very shallow and misguided. Fuelled by a need for validation and approval from others this often leads to a lack of authenticity and a disconnection from one's true desires and values.
We live in a world driven by social media and constant comparison, and it’s so common for people to fall into the trap of comparing their lives and accomplishments to others. Over the years I have worked with so many people who have been in a state of exhaustion from desperately searching for their purpose. Many mistakenly believe that their purpose is a singular, fixed destination to be discovered or achieved and they usually envision this as a job, business or service. When this is not known to them it creates immense anxiety, life becomes pointless until they find this magical sense of purpose and they fear that time is running out.
In the past, I too have experienced this and it was turbo-charged by things I was looking at online. Social media has amplified the message that a sense of purpose is found through business and external accomplishments. This crazy focus on finding purpose has been very damaging to many. It often blocks people from connecting with who they truly are and bombards them with ideas of who they think they should be. This is usually based on money, looks, and status. Rather than feeling a sense of fulfilment through acceptance and gratitude for what exists right now, people go in search of something they don’t have, driven by comparison, lack and scarcity. Life will never be good enough until they find that ONE thing that makes them highly rich, successful and popular in the eyes of society.
Social media influencers share curated versions of their lives online, emphasising their successes and positive experiences. I can hand on heart tell you, having met so many of these Insta-famous people, they are almost ALWAYS a starkly different character to what’s portrayed online. Especially the ones with a shit ton of money. It has many believing these people have their shit together and they don’t experience tough times. Let me tell you, NO ONE has their shit together and everyone experiences the darkness… THAT’S LIFE. When constantly exposing ourselves to others' achievements, luxurious lifestyles, and material possessions it can reinforce feelings of inadequacy. It has people fantasising about an unrealistic idea of life rather than appreciating what they have right now.
If you relate to this vicious cycle… unfollow everyone who triggers it and start exploring the shadow side. Uncover the what and why behind the parts of you that fixate and lust over another’s life.
It’s not what you do. It’s who you can BE.
Purpose is a higher state of consciousness. Put simply, it’s how you live as the highest version of yourself, and that’s not a fixed end goal, it’s a daily devotion. Purpose is ever-changing, it’s always evolving and it’s influenced by life experiences and personal growth. It’s a process of forming a beautiful relationship with your unique self-expression. The true self can only emerge when you get real with your shadow, and this involves exploring and integrating the unconscious or less-known aspects of yourself. The parts you have repressed, denied, or disowned. By acknowledging and exploring the tough stuff, you can discover desires, passions, and talents that have been buried or avoided. This can help reveal authentic aspects of yourself that will guide you towards a feeling of true purpose.
When people come to me in search of their purpose, I help them to go inwards and explore their greatest challenges in life. The pain and suffering we have experienced in the past is quite often the driving force behind what we do in the world and that can manifest in positive or negative ways. It’s very common for people to dismiss life events that have played a huge part in who they are, and many choose to stay in a victim mindset because it’s far easier than facing the truth and going after what they want. I speak from personal experience. When I chose to get real with the tough stuff and change my life, I was driven to help others in the same way. A desire to be of service will naturally occur when you clear through your shit and choose differently.

PURPOSE IS YOUR WELLBEING
- it’s a higher state of consciousness
As I shared, there’s no end goal. It’s a daily devotion.
You can feel a sense of purpose, create a dream life… and then can slip back into the depths of darkness wondering who the fuck you are and why you’re here. That’s life. Death and rebirth. New levels and layers. The rainbows come and they go.
The key to connecting with a sense of purpose involves getting to know who you are on a deep level and cultivating internal fulfilment. This happens when you can see the magic in the mundane, appreciating every single moment you get to be alive on this earth. You must choose to look after your health, and surrender to life’s lessons in trust that great wisdom is received through your human experience. Purpose is fluid and it evolves over time, influenced by life's challenges and your personal growth. You feel it when you listen deeply to mother nature. It shows up in your humanness. It comes when you accept who you are in all your mess and madness.
So what is YOUR unique purpose?
Only you will know. Explore your internal worlds. Follow the call to adventure.
Your purpose is sitting right under your nose. It’s within you now. It’s something that comes very naturally to you. Something so natural you cannot see the power of this gift because it’s a deeply inherent part of you and your soul’s unique expression. To find the treasure you must dive deep. The call to adventure asks you to step outside your comfort zone.
What problems and challenges do you have in your life that you can no longer ignore? Can you feel a push for change? Are you ready to rise to the challenge and face the unknown? In the hero’s journey, there is often a refusal to follow this call to action on a number of occasions until you can’t ignore it any more. Something may come along, give you a good hiding and you’ll wake up one day saying OK NO MORE! I shared a little about my own hero’s journey on the About page so head there for more inspiration.
