The Sacral Chakra - Belonging, Procrastination, Sabotage, Creative Flow, Pleasure
What are you like when it comes to getting shit done?
How long is it taking you to write that book? Paint that canvas? Build that business? Find your own sense of freedom by doing what you love?
Whatever you wish to create in life, the sacral chakra plays a very important role. Developing at around 6 months through to 2 years old, it is connected to creativity, our sense of belonging, pleasure, sexuality and self-sabotage. It can be deeply affected by experiences such as physical, sexual or emotional abuse, volatile situations, neglect or uncertain environments. As we learn to sit up, crawl and explore the world, we require attentive safety and support to cultivate a healthy sacral chakra. Touch, comfort, and nurturance give a child the security and connectedness they need to know it’s safe to be separate. During this time we learn how to move and flow, feel and sense our way around this world, helping to generate the vital energy needed for the third chakra.
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL
Turned on, in flow, vibrant, alive, connected, creative… these are just some of the vibes you get from a healthy, balanced Sacral Chakra. It provides a powerful force of energy that helps you to get shit done. A human with a healthy sacral will radiate with warmth, playfulness and childlike innocence. Life won’t be so serious. You can visually see this energy activated in someone by how they move and connect.
What is the Sacral Chakra?
The Sacral chakra, traditionally named Svadhisthana, is our creative centre. Located between the belly button and the genitals, it connects us to our sexual energy and plays a part in how we feel emotionally.
We can either have too much energy in this chakra or not enough flowing through it. If it’s deficient there will be a deep fear of change. You may feel stagnant or depressed and struggle to truly feel into your emotions. You may find you’re unmotivated, struggling to really enjoy yourself, be inspired to create or be passionate about anything. Your self-control can be overbearing and unkind. When there is excess energy in this centre, things may seem quite the opposite. An excessive sacral may have you swinging between extremes, over and under stimulated. You may be ruled by your emotions and suffer from a lack of boundaries, there may be sexual addiction or constant cravings for social interaction, causing this energy to scatter.
There is a lot in life that can cause a deep disconnect to the power of the sacral. From sexual trauma, emotional abuse, body shaming, criticism, bullying - anything to do with the way you relate to people and the way you relate to your creative process, you can find truth in exploring the sacral chakra. Follow the pathway from your Root. All the Chakras are connected. Anything that affects your base (root chakra) will also affect your Sacral and all the other energy centres. Think of your body like an instrument, the energy of each chakra is like a sound or vibration that comes from tuning and playing a key or a string.
In the Spiral, we move through a clearing process that begins at the bottom of your central energy channel and goes all the way to the top, then clears back down again! We explore the different ways in which the chakra blocks and imbalances play out across all the centres and get to the root of unhealthy, challenging behavioural traits.
Everybody has blocks and imbalances within the chakra system. Within the sacral chakra, the most common emotional issues when imbalanced would be:
You may struggle with addictions such as food, alcohol, sex, drugs etc..
You find it hard to feel and often avoid any kind of emotional stuff
You’ve got no sex drive and find it hard to connect with pleasure
Or you may be in overdrive addicted to sex and turned on by everything
You’re controlling and cannot bear unpredictability
You have fertility issues
You’re tired, and exhausted, you struggle to have the energy to do things
You are very reactive and cannot stay balanced with your emotions
You’re creatively constipated and feel stuck and stagnant
You have problems in the lower back area, in the stomach or kidneys

Emotions are like water - let them flow. If you don’t the water becomes murky and stagnant.
To get the important shit done, we need to allow and observe any feelings that stand in the way of us creating. Procrastination is stagnation, fear of flow. Through physical movement and emotional clearing, you allow yourself to truly feel everything that’s standing in your way. You allow spirit to move through you. You must listen to your body, move, choose pleasure and play, and find ways to create.

Level 2 of The Spiral
Creativity; Releasing FEAR and increasing PROACTIVITY
In the Spiral, as we move into the second chakra we uncover 9 major instalments (core emotional blocks) behind fear, grief and paralysed will. These ‘instalments’ are emotions stored in the unconscious from situations in your past that have not been processed in a healthy way. We explore the ways these emotions may create behavioural patterns in your life today, and then we go through a somatic-release process to help move them through your energy system.
Fear plays a very important in life, it helps us to stay alive and it tells us when something is dangerous or unhealthy. We need the fear response in order to survive. However, we also have fears that are unnecessary and if you refer back to the root chakra, we can find ourselves stuck in a survival state which wreaks havoc on the nervous system. As we journey through the sacral we explore the ways facing some major fears could help create more freedom in life. We also look at anything that may affect our relationship to grief, any blocks around grief will prevent us from being able to let go and surrender to different situations in life. This deeply affects flow.
REAL freedom is creative, proactive and will take me into new territories. I am not free if my freedom is predicated on reacting to my past. - Kenny Loggins
So what does a healthy and balanced sacral look like?
You’ll feel comfortable in your skin. You won’t put off having fun or make excuses as to why you can’t play or create. You’ll be able to laugh at life and find joy in simple pleasures. Not only will you enjoy the pleasures of life, but you will be open to experiencing the richness of life and you’ll want to explore more. Through balancing your root chakra and your sacral you’ll be both emotionally open but also emotionally grounded with healthy boundaries. It won’t be such a struggle to create and you’ll find you’ll be a lot more spontaneous as you connect with life on a deeper level.
